Spondylolisthesis is when one lumbar vertebrae slips on another. Usually, it is a forward slippage, and therefore extreme extension (bending back backwards) is to be avoided, as this could encourage further slippage, which could sever your spinal cord (gross…but true).
So, we would follow similar recommendations to those I gave in the What If…Spinal Stenosis section…except in this case, we really MUST avoid any lumbar extension (back-bending), even if it doesn’t hurt. If this is you, I highly recommend meeting with a Pelvic PT (or at least Orthopedic Certified Specialist) in the prenatal stages, to plan for a successful labor & delivery.
